Although our most valuable asset is the people that make up our organization, they couldn’t do the job without the right tools. The apparatus and specialized tools that compliment those who serve, have come a long way since the infancy stages of OGFD. Below are pictures and descriptions of the OGFD “tools of the trade.”
Apparatus Information
Below are pictures of our apparatus, click each picture for a larger view. . .
Engine 1 is a 2001 Pierce Contender pumper riding on a Kenworth T-300 Chasis. It serves as the primary structural firefighting unit for the district. It has a 1250gpm pump, 1000 gallon tank and a complete assortment of tools to perform its function.
Engine 2 is a 1985 Grumman / GMC pumper. This engine serves a multitude of roles including supply pumper, primary vehicle extrication apparatus and wildland support vehicle. It has a 1500gpm pump and 1250 gallon tank and carries a complete set of Amkus hydraulic extrication tools, cribbing, etc.
Rescue 5 is a 2006 Chevrolet 4-door medium duty rescue vehicle built by Anchor Richey EVS in North Carolina. This rescue unit replaced a 1973 model that served the district for nearly 10 years. Unlike the older model it replaced, this unit has an elevated light tower, a full set of Amkus rescue tools, hazardous materials response equipment and even a small fire pump and tank to allow it limited firefighting capabilities.
Tanker 6 is a 1996 Ford Tanker built by Deep South Fire Trucks. This custom tanker was acquired and built for the fire district in 2002 and serves as the primary water tender for our department and during mutual aid situations. The truck carries approximately 2000 gallons of water and has a 500gpm on board pump to allow it to serve a limited firefighting role.
Squad 8 is a 2008 Chevrolet grass rig. It was purchased with a grant issued from the Oklahoma Department of Foresty. OGFD Personnel completed the application of the lights, radios, 200 Gallon tank, and the pump. It serves as the second out truck for medical calls.
Squad 2 is a 1984 Chevrolet grass rig. All grass rigs in the OGFD carry the same number and types of tools including fire rakes, leaf rakes, indian pump cans, Class A Foam, pike poles, etc.
Squad 3 is a 1986 Chevrolet grass rig. This unit was given to the OGFD by the City of Tulsa in an interlocal agreement that requires OGFD to respond to portions of the City of Tulsa in Wagoner County.
Squad 4 is a 1986 Chevolet grass rig. Formerly a military truck, it was given to the Department of Forestry so it could be converted to a fire truck to assist Oklahoma Fire Departments in fighting grass and forest fires. The conversion of this and S2 was done by original members of the OGFD.
Gator 1 is a John Deere 4wd Utility Vehicle. Equipped with a front mounted winch and tilting cargo box, it was acquired through a grant. It serves as a general utility vehicle around the station, transportation at large wildland fires, and a great public education tool for the kids.
