Oak Grove Fire Department Receives New Rescue Unit
Catoosa Times - Wednesday, December 27, 2006
The Oak Grove Fire Department has received a new medium-duty rescue unit from Anchor-Richey Emergency Vehicles.
The new Unit, which cost approximately $200,000, went into service Dec. 16, 2006. It serves as the primary response
vehicle for medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials calls and technical rescue incidents.
It features a high capacity generator that runs the Jaws of Life equipment, two winches and an elevated light tower
which can serve to illuminate a dark emergency scene.
"This is a very versatile unit that will serve our department well," said Fire Chief Dicus Benton. "The unit has
funded by the Wagoner County Fire Sales Tax and greatly improves protection for citizens in the Catoosa area."
The previous rescue vehicle was a 1970's model Dodge utility truck which has since been donated to another Wagoner
County fire department.
The Oak Grove Fire Department is also expecting to put a brand new brush unit in service in the first half of 2007.
Grants Providing Progress Funding
Much of the progress that OGFD makes can be contributed to our aggressively seeking grants for funds above our tax
generated operating budget. Although our budget is better than most departments our size, it still limits our ability
to provide quality personal protective equipment for our firefighters, and some of the latest equipment and tools to do
our job. By being awarded various grants, we are able to supplement our budget and purchase these much needed items.
Below is a list of some of the grants that OGFD has received:
2006 - Federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant for Firefighter Daytime Staffing
2006 - Oklahoma Department of Forestry Equipment Replacement Grant (Brush Pumper)
